Chinese paleontologist Zhang Miman attracted the attention of the world on March 22 when she received the 2018 L'OREAL-UNESCO For Women in Science Award at UNESCO'S headquarters in Paris. She spoke French, English, Chinese and Russian during her fiveminute speech on the stage, which impressed the audience and countless netizens. The 82-year-old professor and academic, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was honored as one of the 2018 Top 10 Most Beautiful Scientists on June 10. The public may not be fully aware of the value of paleontological research, but the application value cannot be overlooked. "Paleontologists, especially those who research invertebrates, can provide basic geological data for the exploitation of mines and petroleum," Zhang said. In addition to making outstanding personal achievements, she has supported China's young generation of paleontologists.
