Organ Donations on Rise in China

There were 2,459 organ donations and 7,559 transplant surgeries in China during the first five months of this year, up 24.6 percent and 20.7 percent, respectively, compared with the same period of last year, says Guo Yanhong, a senior official with the medical service management department of the National Health Commission. Guo made the comment during the recent national forum on organ donation and transplant surgeries. It has been estimated the number of organ donations will exceed 6,000 at the end of this year. In 2017, there were 5,146 organ donations and 16,000 transplant surgeries in China, and China ranked second in terms of the number of organ donations and transplant surgeries in the world.
