Where to Exercise?
China adopted a plan, Healthy China 2030, in 2016 in an effort to improve people's health within 15 years. According to the plan, China will establish a network of public sports facilities at the county, township and village levels, and each person will enjoy at least 2.3 square meters of sports grounds, on average, in 2030. At the end of 2013, each person enjoyed an average of 1.46 square meters of sports grounds.
In recent years, sports departments, at all levels, have made efforts to increase the public sports facilities. The State Council's inter-ministerial, joint-conference system was established in 2017 to address the issues of nationwide physical fitness programs. "We need cooperation and coordination among different departments to address issues related to public sports facilities and sports grounds," says Zhao Aiguo, director of the Public Service Division of General Administration of Sport.
