NANOSLIDE TECHNOLOGY IN ENGINES
THIS REVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN APPLIED BY MERCEDES-BENZ SINCE 2006, FIRST IN ITS EIGHT-CYLINDER AMG ENGINES AND IT WAS LATER INCLUDED IN OTHER SERIAL PRODUCTS. IN 2011, DURING
THE 14TH MATERIALICA FAIR (HELD IN OCTOBER IN MUNICH), THE GERMAN BRAND WAS GIVEN THE COVETED DESIGN AWARD FOR ITS NANOSLIDE, AS AN EXCEPTIONAL INNOVATION.
Nanoslide entails a cylinder-covering process for aluminum engine blocks, thus offering an alternative to cylinder sleeves. The technology uses a doublewire arc spraying process to continuously melt iron wires and carbon, and scatter them over the cylinders by making the most of a nitrogen gas flow.
