IF YOU HAVE BEEN AT ANY SECTION OF 10 DE OCTUBRE AVENUE, IN HAVANA, YOU HAVE PROBABLY SEEN TAXI RUTERO 1 COOPERATIVE, WHICH IS GOING TO CELEBRATE ITS FIFTH ANNIVERSARY ON JULY 15. “We began to provide this service back in 2013 with 46 buses and three itineraries. We presently have 59 buses and cover four routes,” Alexander Leyva, president of the Cooperative, explains. Nearly a year ago, we included light cars with segmented routes, charging five Cuban pesos per section. With this new option, the Cooperative covers routes from Reparto Electrico or Alta Habana to Vedado. “We have seen our results grow over the past five years”, Alexander underlines, “we have increased the number of vehicles, State agreements, financial revenues and, what matters the most, people have felt that our service has grown stronger.
