‘Drunk driver’ in­jured af­ter 20-me­tre fall

A DRIVER said by po­lice to have been drink­ing es­caped un­hurt when she crashed her car near the Boğaz pic­nic area but was badly in­jured when she plunged down a 20-me­tre-high em­bank­ment af­ter she got out to walk.

A state­ment said Han­ife Ya­banok, 20, had lost con­trol of her car last Satur­day night, col­lid­ing with an­other ve­hi­cle parked at the road­side.

She then lost her bal­ance and top­pled down the bank and was rushed to in­ten­sive care at Le­fkoşa State Hos­pi­tal be­fore be­ing trans­ferred, in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion, to Near East Hos­pi­tal.

Chief doc­tor Se­vim Erk­men said later in the week Ms Ya­banok’s con­di­tion was im­prov­ing, so that she could now take liq­uid food by mouth, and she might be moved from the in­ten­sive care unit.
