‘Drunk driver’ injured after 20-metre fall
A DRIVER said by police to have been drinking escaped unhurt when she crashed her car near the Boğaz picnic area but was badly injured when she plunged down a 20-metre-high embankment after she got out to walk.
A statement said Hanife Yabanok, 20, had lost control of her car last Saturday night, colliding with another vehicle parked at the roadside.
She then lost her balance and toppled down the bank and was rushed to intensive care at Lefkoşa State Hospital before being transferred, in a critical condition, to Near East Hospital.
Chief doctor Sevim Erkmen said later in the week Ms Yabanok’s condition was improving, so that she could now take liquid food by mouth, and she might be moved from the intensive care unit.
