Stelios to open first bi-communal cafe in Nicosia
The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, the charity backed by easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou will open the first Bi-Communal cafe in Old Nicosia next week. This new initiative is aimed at building support for business relationships between the Greek and Turkish communities and encourage applications for the Stelios Bi-Communal awards in Cyprus.
The cafe will be open 5-6pm every Tuesday from March 10 until the awards ceremony in October. Based at the Foundation’s building on the corner of Palias Ilektrikis and Eptanisou 57, it will be a meeting and networking point for Greek and Turkish Cypriots, allowing the exchange of business ideas and strategy development for bi-communal cooperation.
Winners and past Stelios Award participants will be able to discuss their experiences and can resubmit applications for this year’s competition. Moreover, entrepreneurs who want to connect for the first time will be able to find potential partners from the other community.
The Stelios Bi-communal Awards have now opened for the seventh consecutive year and since 2009 Stelios has handed out EUR 1.2 mln to 40 bi-communal teams. This year, he is giving away more prize money than ever, offering EUR 300,000 to 30 bi-communal teams.
