Tourism rev­enue down 3.1%

Tourism rev­enue sta­tis­ti­cal ser­vice in­creased by 4.9%.

On the ba­sis of the re­sults of the monthly Pas­sen­ger Sur­vey, rev­enue from tourism reached EUR 217.1 mln in May com­pared to EUR 224.1 mln in the same month last year, record­ing a de­crease of 3.1%.

For the Jan­uary-May pe­riod, rev­enue from tourism is es­ti­mated at EUR 471.9 mln com­pared to EUR 475.5 mln in the cor­re­spond­ing pe­riod of 2014, a drop of 0.8%.

The Cy­s­tat data showed that the num­ber of ar­rivals from Rus­sia in May reached 71,137 com­pared to 88,426 in May 2014 and the av­er­age ex­pen­di­ture per per­son was fell by 3.1% in May ac­cord­ing to Cy­s­tat, de­spite ar­rivals hav­ing EUR 726 com­pared to EUR 874 last year.

On the other hand, ar­rivals from the U.K. were sig­nif­i­cantly up, at 124,189 in May com­pared to 106,063 in the same month of last year. Ex­pen­di­ture per per­son was marginally up at EUR 756 com­pared to EUR 750 last year.

Ar­rivals from Ger­many were also on the rise, at 13,297 this May com­pared to 8,564 last May. How­ever, av­er­age spend­ing per per­son saw a sig­nif­i­cant drop to EUR 740 from EUR 902 last year.

Ar­rivals from Greece in May were also up, at 13,120 com­pared to 9,038 in May 2014. Ex­pen­di­ture per head came to EUR 394 in­stead of EUR 411 last year.
