Ma­jor projects by year end

Trans­port Min­is­ter Mar­ios Deme­tri­ades said that a sig­nif­i­cant num­ber of de­vel­op­ment projects will be awarded by the end of the year, which will in turn lead to eco­nomic growth. In state­ments in Paphos, Deme­tri­ades re­called that the projects an­nounced by Pres­i­dent Ni­cos Anas­tasi­ades are over half a bil­lion eu­ros while in Paphos alone they are worth EUR 60 mln.

As re­gards tourist traf­fic and flights to and from Cyprus, Deme­tri­ades said that at present the num­ber of flights is up 3.5% de­spite a drop in tourist ar­rivals from Rus­sia. The in­crease, he es­ti­mated, will con­tinue un­til the end of the year. In Paphos, flights have in­creased by 20%, he said.

Re­fer­ring to the ef­forts un­der­way by the Min­istry of Energy, Com­merce, In­dus­try and Tourism, he ex­pressed the hope that ho­tels will re­main open dur­ing the win­ter sea­son.
