Major projects by year end
Transport Minister Marios Demetriades said that a significant number of development projects will be awarded by the end of the year, which will in turn lead to economic growth. In statements in Paphos, Demetriades recalled that the projects announced by President Nicos Anastasiades are over half a billion euros while in Paphos alone they are worth EUR 60 mln.
As regards tourist traffic and flights to and from Cyprus, Demetriades said that at present the number of flights is up 3.5% despite a drop in tourist arrivals from Russia. The increase, he estimated, will continue until the end of the year. In Paphos, flights have increased by 20%, he said.
Referring to the efforts underway by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, he expressed the hope that hotels will remain open during the winter season.
