Over 8 mln al­ready paid in in­come tax self as­sess­ment

Cit­i­zens us­ing the new tax self as­sess­ment pro­ce­dure for 2014 have al­ready paid over EUR 8 mln to the gov­ern­ment.

Se­nior Tax Depart­ment Of­fi­cer Klelia Pa­padopoulou said that un­til July 17 a to­tal of EUR 8.18 mln had been paid by 11,483 taxpayers who used the new self as­sess­ment pro­ce­dure.

The dead­line was June 30 for both elec­tronic and printed self assess­ments.

Pa­padopoulou said that a to­tal of 55,750 taxpayers have sub­mit­ted their tax re­turns elec­tron­i­cally through the Tax­isnet sys­tem while the dead­line for sub­mis­sions was last Fri­day.

About 200,000 tax re­turns are sub­mit­ted ev­ery year in both elec­tronic and print form so it is es­ti­mated that the rest will be sub­mit­ted in print.

Pa­padopoulou that all those who should have filed their tax re­turns and did not do so will be fined EUR 100. Taxpayers are obliged to sub­mit a tax re­turn if their an­nual in­come is over EUR 19,500.
