Li­mas­sol gets ready for the an­nual Wine Fes­ti­val

Li­mas­sol is pre­par­ing to host the 54th Wine Fes­ti­val, which will take place in the mu­nic­i­pal gar­dens from Au­gust 27 to Septem­ber 6, at­tract­ing thou­sands of visi­tors from Cyprus and abroad.

The em­blem of the Fes­ti­val, which cel­e­brates the pro­duc­tion of wine on the is­land, is a gi­ant statue of a Cypriot vil­lage wine­grower in his tra­di­tional out­fit of baggy trousers (the na­tional ‘vraka’). This was al­ready been placed at his spot ear­lier this month with the Ari­ones choir ac­com­pa­ny­ing him with wine mak­ing songs.

The theme of the wine fes­ti­val is “Drink wine and be healthy”.

This year about 60 kiosks will of­fer tra­di­tional tid­bits, food and sou­venirs.

The Min­is­ter of Energy, Com­merce, In­dus­try and Tourism Yior­gos Lakkotrypis will open the Fes­ti­val.

Winer­ies par­tic­i­pat­ing in this an­nual event will be of­fer­ing free wine to all visi­tors.
