Employment up in 2Q
Employment increased in Cyprus in the second quarter of the year by 0.1%, compared to the previous quarter and by 0.3% compared to the year-earlier quarter, according to Eurostat.
The number of persons employed increased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU28 in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the previous quarter, Eurostat said based on national accounts estimates.
In the first quarter of 2015, employment increased by 0.2% in the euro area and 0.3% in the EU28. These figures are seasonally adjusted.
Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, employment increased by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU28 in the second quarter of 2015 (after +0.8% and +1.0% respectively in the first quarter of 2015).
Portugal (+1.3%) and Greece (+1.2%) recorded the highest increases in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the previous quarter, followed by Ireland and Spain (both +0.9%), Estonia (+0.8%), Luxembourg and Slovakia (both +0.7%). Decreases were recorded in Finland (-0.3%), the United Kingdom (-0.2%), Bulgaria and Lithuania (both -0.1%).
