Em­ploy­ment up in 2Q

Em­ploy­ment in­creased in Cyprus in the sec­ond quar­ter of the year by 0.1%, com­pared to the pre­vi­ous quar­ter and by 0.3% com­pared to the year-ear­lier quar­ter, ac­cord­ing to Euro­stat.

The num­ber of per­sons em­ployed in­creased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU28 in the sec­ond quar­ter of 2015 com­pared with the pre­vi­ous quar­ter, Euro­stat said based on na­tional ac­counts es­ti­mates.

In the first quar­ter of 2015, em­ploy­ment in­creased by 0.2% in the euro area and 0.3% in the EU28. These fig­ures are sea­son­ally ad­justed.

Com­pared with the same quar­ter of the pre­vi­ous year, em­ploy­ment in­creased by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU28 in the sec­ond quar­ter of 2015 (af­ter +0.8% and +1.0% re­spec­tively in the first quar­ter of 2015).

Por­tu­gal (+1.3%) and Greece (+1.2%) recorded the high­est in­creases in the sec­ond quar­ter of 2015 com­pared with the pre­vi­ous quar­ter, fol­lowed by Ire­land and Spain (both +0.9%), Es­to­nia (+0.8%), Lux­em­bourg and Slo­vakia (both +0.7%). De­creases were recorded in Fin­land (-0.3%), the United King­dom (-0.2%), Bulgaria and Lithua­nia (both -0.1%).
