Land prices in the north have rock­eted by 172% in two years and hous­ing by 36%, ac­cord­ing to re­search by Ste­lios Platis and PRIO. This pace is much faster than in the south where land prices rose by 14% and houses by 10%. For­eign ex­change in­flows, par­tic­u­larly since the Cyprus pound joined ERM II in May, have reached CYP 542 mln, from just 5 mln a year be­fore.



Tourism up:

Af­ter a dip in Septem­ber, tourism ar­rivals re­cov­ered in Oc­to­ber, ris­ing 4.8% year-onyear, with the year-to-date fig­ure up 6.2%. The UK mar­ket was up 3%, Ger­many and Greece fell, but the flow from Rus­sia con­tin­ued to im­prove, up 37% hav­ing al­ready in­creased 49% in Septem­ber, due mainly to smoother visa pro­ce­dures.

Oh, and by the way, was sworn in as Ger­many’s first fe­male Chan­cel­lor, with 397 of 448 votes in a ‘grand coali­tion’ of the CDU/CSU and for­mer ri­vals SPD.
