Num­ber of civil ser­vants down 6,900 since 2012

The num­ber of work­ers in the gen­eral civil ser­vice has de­creased by 9.9% (6,913) since the end of 2012, ac­cord­ing to fig­ures re­leased by the Sta­tis­ti­cal Ser­vice Cy­s­tat.

The to­tal num­ber of work­ers in the civil ser­vice is down to 63,041 in the last quar­ter of 2015, com­pared to 65,346 in the last quar­ter of 2014 and 64,292 since the pre­vi­ous quar­ter.

The num­ber of work­ers in the civil ser­vice be­fore Cyprus en­tered the Eco­nomic Ad­just­ment Pro­gramme was 69,954.

The largest de­crease was reg­is­tered in semi-gov­ern­ment or­gan­i­sa­tions and state com­pa­nies where the num­ber of work­ers in the last quar­ter of 2015 reached 5,513 com­pared to the cor­re­spond­ing quar­ter of 2014 which was 7,131.

The num­ber of civil ser­vants in the last quar­ter of 2015 was 53,226, com­pared to 53,851 in the cor­re­spond­ing pe­riod last year.
