Un­em­ploy­ment sta­ble at 15.7%

The Euro area un­em­ploy­ment rate fell to 10.4% in De­cem­ber, down from 10.5% in Novem­ber, and from 11.4% in De­cem­ber 2014. This is the low­est rate recorded in the Euro area since Septem­ber 2011, ac­cord­ing to fig­ures pub­lished to­day by Euro­stat.

In Cyprus, the un­em­ploy­ment rate re­mained sta­ble at 15.7% in De­cem­ber, down from 16.5% in De­cem­ber 2014, plac­ing fourth high­est in EU28.

Ac­cord­ing to the same fig­ures, the EU28 un­em­ploy­ment rate was 9.0% in De­cem­ber, sta­ble com­pared to Novem­ber, and down from 9.9% in De­cem­ber 2014. This is the low­est rate recorded in the EU28 since June 2009.

In the same month 4,454,000 young per­sons (un­der 25) were un­em­ployed in the EU28, of whom 3,057,000 in the euro area. In Cyprus the re­spec­tive rate has fallen to 31.1% and re­mains sta­ble through the laste quar­ter of 2015, lower com­pared to 34.3% last year.
