Cypriot sea­far­ers could chan­nel € 50 mil­lion per year to state funds

Cypriot sea­far­ers could chan­nel more than 50 mln euros a year to state funds, the Pres­i­dent of the As­so­ci­a­tion of Mer­chant Marine Of­fi­cers Paris Demetriou said.

Ad­dress­ing the fourth An­nual Gen­eral Meet­ing held on Fri­day in Li­mas­sol, he said that “if the Min­istry of Trans­port has the will to sup­port the Cypriot sea­farer, they could eas­ily chan­nel to the is­land over 50 mln euros per year.”

The Pres­i­dent of the As­so­ci­a­tion thanked the Cyprus Ship­ping Cham­ber (CSC) for its valu­able co­op­er­a­tion, say­ing it em­ploys 4,500 peo­ple ashore and 55,000 sea­far­ers, lead­ing the un­em­ploy­ment of the sea­far­ers to be at zero lev­els.

Dur­ing the an­nual meet­ing, the Cyprus Ship­ping Cham­ber’s Gen­eral Di­rec­tor, Thomas Kaza­kos, be­came an hon­orary mem­ber of the As­so­ci­a­tion and awards were pre­sented to CSC Vice Pres­i­dent, Di­eter Ro­hden­burg.
