And long-term so­lu­tions such as es­tab­lish­ing and con­nect­ing bio-sur­veil­lance sys­tems should be ex­panded and strength­ened, to en­able pub­lic-health pro­fes­sion­als around the world to track and re­port hu­man and an­i­mal dis­eases and plan de­fenses to­gether.

Pub­lic health is an es­sen­tial el­e­ment of global se­cu­rity. Fail­ing to in­vest ap­pro­pri­ately in pre­ven­tion of in­fec­tious­dis­ease out­breaks puts all of us at risk, when­ever or wher­ever the next one oc­curs.
