Si a Galápagos se las llamó Encantadas, algo de ensoñadoras, algo de crípticas, algo de intangibles e inexplicables deben tener. Fernando Espinosa Chauvín ha salido en busca de ese campo borroso y telúrico a la vez, esa ‘extrañeza inquietante’ que provocan estas islas volcánicas que de la nada surgieron en medio del mar Pacífico. En sus propias palabras: “fotografiar las Islas Galápagos es una respuesta creativa y personal a la experiencia de ver sus animales y paisajes… en Galápagos existen animales que no existen en ninguna otra parte del mundo. Escenas, cercanas a lo irreal, texturas de rocas que se mezclan con la fauna y flora peculiar: todo genera un marco perfecto sobre el cual forjar una imagen surreal. Las islas crean un ambiente hostil e implacable, sin embargo forman un paraíso para su naturaleza: una contradicción que es el eje de este trabajo”.
En su libro Galápagos Surreal, Chauvín fue encontrando un punto de madurez artística importante. Su elegante percepción, su ojo ‘consumado’, capta, aquí, momentos del Galápagos de siempre, en tonos mágicos y paisajes de un lugar que surge por entre lo onírico y lo real. Trece viajes fueron necesarios para que lograse una secuencia fotográfica que lo dejara conforme, para así expresar éste, su constante deseo de transmitir sublimación y belleza. Exhibiendo su obra en países como Australia, Korea, Qatar, Ecuador, espera llevar la experiencia a otros lugares aún. Los proyectos de Espinosa no terminan; aunque cierre etapas con libros y exposiciones, siempre busca la manera de seguir sumándole imágenes a sus ideas.
To be considered Enchanted, there must be something dreamy, something eerie, something cryptic, intangible or inexplicable about the Galápagos. Fernando Espinosa Chauvin has searched for that ‘uncanny’ nature imprinted all along these volcanic islands emerged from out of nowhere, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In his own words: “photographing the Galápagos Islands is a creative and personal response to the experience of seeing both the landscape and wildlife. Galápagos is home to creatures found nowhere else on Earth… Scenes, close to unreal, rock textures that blend with the fauna and flora: all generate a perfect framework to achieve a surreal image. The islands create an environment that is harsh and unrelenting, and yet form a paradise for the wildlife – a contradiction that seeded the foundation of this body of work.”
In his book Surreal Galapagos ( Galápagos Surreal), Chauvín discovered artistic maturity. His elegant perception, his ‘consummate’ eye, has captured a magical Galapagos that rises between dream and reality. He traveled to the archipelago a total 13 times until he came up with a photographic sequence that satisfied him, and shares it today in his constant desire to express beauty and artistic sublimation. Having exhibited his work in countries such as Australia, Korea, Qatar, and Ecuador, Espinosa hopes to take the experience to other places, as well. Espinosa’s projects never end; he may close stages with books and exhibits, yet he is always looking for ways to continue adding images to his thoughts and ideas.
