Kayaking
Hacer kayak en las Islas Galápagos es muy popular entre los turistas, ya que es una forma diferente de admirar la naturaleza: navegar entre lobos marinos, aguas cristalinas de color turquesa y temperatura perfecta, con un mar tranquilo casi todo el año, en medio de un paisaje de características prehistóricas, hacen de esta, una de las actividades más acogidas en las Islas.
Kayaking is a popular sport in the islands with its ability to give one a different perspective from which to admire nature: paddle through warm, turquoise waters amid sea lions and rays. The sea around the shoreline is pretty calm year-round, and the pre-historic-looking landscape makes the perfect backdrop.
Surfing
El surf es el deporte más practicado entre la juventud local y la extranjera que visita las Islas Galápagos. Las variadas olas del archipiélago, que llegan todo el año, son ideales para novatos y expertos, particularmente en las islas Santa Cruz y San Cristóbal.
El ofrece cursos para aprender este bello deporte, pero sobre todo brinda a la juventud local una alternativa de vida que contribuye a la formación integral de jóvenes deportistas, fomentando, paralelamente, la conservación y el respeto por la naturaleza. El club de surf de Puerto Ayora empezó en 1998, y algunos de sus profesores actuales fueron principiantes hace unos años. Surfing in Galápagos has garnered droves of fans over the last years, whether international visitors or young locals. Beginners and experts can find waves to suit their tastes on the inhabited islands, particularly Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal.
The Santa Cruz Surf Club is the place to head to as a visitor. The club offers courses for all levels, but also plays a role in the local community, keen to provide an alternative to young people, guiding them onto the road of sportsmanship, conservation and respect for nature. Many of the teachers at the Club have made their up from novices since the club started in 1998.
Trekking
Muchas de las actividades que se hacen en Galápagos implican caminar. En este santuario natural, los lugares más visitados son accesibles solo a pie. La Isla Isabela ofrece varias excursiones. Una de las más interesantes es la visita al Volcán Sierra Negra, a 27 km al noroeste del pueblo. El volcán de 1490 msnm, tiene el segundo cráter más ancho del mundo, con casi 10 km de diámetro. Este trekking tiene 8 km de largo e incluye la visita al Volcán Chico y hermosas vistas en días despejados. En la Isla Santa Cruz, a muchos les encanta el trek de Cerro Mesa, al oeste de Bellavista, que también ofrece maravillosos panoramas hacia el oeste.
Many of the visits to the islands of the archipelago involve some walking, since some of the sites within its natural sanctuary are only reachable by foot. Isabela Island offers excellent trekking opportunities up from Puerto Villamil. One of the most interesting takes in the amazing Sierra Negra volcano, about 27 km from the port. The volcano rises up to 1,490 m above sea level and boasts one of the widest calderas in the world, at a whopping 10 km in diameter. The trek is 8 km long and includes a visit to Volcán Chico and stunning views on cloud-less days. On Santa Cruz Island, Cerro Mesa, west of Bellavista, is a favourite among many, with great views westwards.
Camping
Acampar a la luz de las estrellas, cobijado por la suave y cálida brisa del mar, en medio del paraíso natural que son las Islas Galápagos, es una experiencia inolvidable. Un lugar ideal para acampar, permitido por el Parque Nacional Galápagos, es la Playa del Garrapatero, localizada a 19 km de Puerto Ayora, al oeste del sector de Bellavista. El registro de visitantes se lo hace en el puesto de información al ingresar al sitio, previa reservación.
Camping beneath the stars, amid the smooth, warm ocean breezes in a natural paradise like Galápagos is an unforgettable experience. A wonderful place to camp within the National Park is at Garrapatero Beach, 19 km from Puerto Ayora, to the west of Bellavista. You need to call to make a reservation and then register at the wardens’ hut near the entrance.
