From the driver’s seat
Welcome to this, the first issue of Land Rover AFRICA magazine. It has taken us over a year to get here and we are chuffed with the result. From the get-go, let me explain what we’re for. We’re for the Land Rover owner, of any model or vintage, who has experienced the gees that comes with driving one of these special vehicles. They say: one doesn’t own a Land Rover; one has a relationship with one. We’ve experienced that first-hand on our travels throughout Africa. From the ubiquitous ‘Landy wave’ exchanged with other travellers as we’ve missioned through Malawi, to the ready assistance afforded a fellow Land Rover owner who didn’t even have to ask for it (read Project Overhaul on pg. 8). We are also completely independent, and, while we publish with permission from Land Rover to use the name in our title, the views, opinions and stories you read are all our own.
We’re not about 0-100 times or top speed; we’re about the incredible story of courage as the Race2Recovery Land Rover team tackled the world’s toughest rally – without limbs (pg. 14) And we’re for you, the Land Rover enthusiast who heads out on weekends and holidays with the spirit of adventure coursing through your veins, ensuring that your family has memories that will last a lifetime. This magazine is your place to share pics, stories and tips with other Land Rover owners (write to us at email@example.com).
Our massively experienced technical editor Ian Theron gets down and dirty with advice on rebuilds, driving tips and the best places to take your Landy (pg. 22). Ian has several successful Land Rover projects to his name, has competed and managed extreme off-road 4x4 events, and gets plain cranky if he doesn’t head off into the Namibian wilderness at least a few times a year. If you have a technical question, write to him at firstname.lastname@example.org. If he can’t set you straight, he’ll put you in touch with someone who will.
We’ll be bringing you Land Rover AFRICA magazine every second month. Subscribe via our website, if you are using an iPad subscribe via iTunes. We’re also on Facebook and Twitter.
Enjoy the read. I’m keen to hear your suggestions and comments; please drop me a line at email@example.com
