Air intake

Land Rover AFRICA Magazine - - TECHNICAL TALK | HOW-TO-GUIDE -

If the water is higher than say headlight height, then a wise precaution is to fit a snorkel to the air intake, to prevent the Landy from ingesting water. Generally speaking, if your engine gets a mouthful of water, you will seize it, which is very inconvenient and expensive. Ideally fit an aftermarket snorkel as this will increase your wading depth substantially. Be careful of aftermarket high performance air intakes that sit low in the bonnet and face forward, this is the first place the water will get into the engine and cause a hydro lock which causes major engine failure.
