From the DRIVER’S SEAT
My Land Rover Africa team has been under some pressure this week to meet our print deadlines. A huge shout out to Ian, Dave and Anton for their efforts, and I certainly owe Dave a cold one for the amount of afterhours time he has put into this issue; thanks mate. Part of the problem, and what makes our job so rewarding, is that our readers keep doing so many amazing things with their Landys – like Bob Marley’s daughter who is commemorating the 30th anniversary of her dad’s passing with a rebuild of his old Land Rover crew bus. This makes it tough to choose which reader’s story gets into the mag and which doesn’t. Still, keeping up with the wonderful things our readers do is all part of the fun and one of our raisons d’être. Of course, we use every opportunity we can to get our own vehicles into the great beyond and we love to share those experiences with you. Read about our amazing trip exploring the old diamond fields of the West Coast in ‘Diamonds and daisies’.
Were you at the Landy Festival or Defender Trophy? Check out our features on these events (and follow the QR codes to see many more pics). Landy owners are known for their big hearts and lending a helping hand when it’s needed from time to time. Read how our LRA editor Ian Theron rallied support to help rebuild one of his favourite 4x4 trails after a devastating fire in our story on ‘Saving Klein Tafelberg’ – one tree at a time.
Sadly the last rhino in Mozambique has been killed by poachers. So much for the wonderful potential of the Transfrontier park. Ian spent some time with Kingsley Holgate on his mission to bring sanity to the warlords ravaging our heritage. Read Ian’s story in our next issue.
As always, please keep those letters coming, we love hearing from you and we’re keen to arrange a fireside meet-and-greet when we’re next in your area. Like us on Facebook and keep an eye out for details of our next meet and greet event.
Enjoy the read.
