What design challenges exist with the new Defender? Do we have any idea of what it will look like?
It’s probably the greatest challenge in terms of design. I had the opportunity to recreate what has become an icon. You don’t arrive on the scene an icon; it takes years and years to establish that status. Everybody knows the Defender and part of its charm is that it has been around in one way or another for 67 years, and it has become so familiar. It has become loveable. The new design needs to recognise that unique heritage and the essence of what Defender is all about. At the same time, it has to move on with the times and make it relevant to today’s market. And that’s the important thing. But let me tell you this: when you see it, you’ll know it’s a Defender.
