From the DRIVER’S SEAT
Dear reader, We’re hard at work on the coffee table book we are compiling for Jaguar Land Rover SA and as part of the process we have had to read hundreds of your Defender adventure stories. Some have made us laugh, some have earned you our everlasting respect, and some have even got us all choked up. Who can forget the story of a bunch of strangers chipping in to restore a Landy fan’s Defender after he fell on hard times. Hearing of his plight, 4X4 Community Forum regulars got together, restored the Landy, handing over the keys back to the owner just before Christmas. That story appeared in our first issue after we were alerted by the Community Forum’s founder Dirk Erasmus. Well, all this got us thinking about our plans for next year’s Heritage Day event, and – BAM! – the idea hit us. We’re taking the best stories, videos and Land Rover legends on the road, old school, drive-in cinema style. Part road-trip, part adventure and part epic event, 2016 will see the launch of our Heritage Day Festival. We have already booked giant screens, and our COSA Media TV production gurus have begun working on the documentary-style movie. The best part? You could be in it. If you have video footage of any of your Defender memories/adventures, please contact Anton Pretorius (email@example.com) with a brief description of the footage and we’ll get back to you. Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town will each host a one-day event. Each venue will be less than an hour from town. And because Heritage Day is also Braai Day, we’ll have our celebrity chefs hosting a braai masterclass – in each city! After the masterclass, attendees will snuggle on a blanket, picnic style, to view the 45-minute documentary. The fun has only just begun. You are welcome to hit the road with us and meet up at the festival in Durban, see what the locals have to offer and then join us again for the best part yet; a week-long road trip through the Transkei to the final event held in the Cape Winelands. Come for the day, or the entire experience. Three venues, three great events and your chance to make some Land Rover history. Open to any Land Rover, any vintage, as much (or as little) as you want. Let’s make next year’s Heritage Day one to remember – go hand your leave form in tomorrow, you know you want to! We are expecting a big take up for this event, so if you are keen to join us, please go to the registration of interest link on our website. Hit it, complete the form and we’ll have one hell of a Heritage Day Festival next September.
