68 cor­rup­tion incidents oc­curred in April: PFT

75% of incidents were in­ves­ti­gated by ju­di­cial au­thor­i­ties, ac­cord­ing to the re­port

Part­ners ForTrans­parency (PFT) in­di­cated in its monthly re­port that me­dia out­lets revealed the oc­cur­rence of 68 cor­rup­tion incidents in Egypt dur­ing April, ac­cord­ing to PFT’s state­ment.

The gover­norate of Cairo re­mained on top of the list re­gard­ing cor­rup­tion incidents, with 19 incidents in April, fol­lowed by Be­heira with 6 incidents, Alexan­dria with 6 incidents,and Minya with 4 incidents.

The num­ber of cor­rup­tion incidents in the Min­istry of Sup­ply wit­nessed a de­cline to 12 incidents from last month’s 16 incidents.

The re­port also tracked the sta­tus of the cor­rup­tion cases of April in the ju­di­ciary, which in­di­cated that 75% of incidents were in­ves­ti­gated, 16% were pend­ing tri­als, and 6% re­ceived ver­dicts, while 3% were not in­ves­ti­gated.

Ac­cord­ing to the PFT, the Ad­min­is­tra­tive Su­per­vi­sion Au­thor­ity tracked the ex­e­cu­tion of the Min­is­te­rial Com­mit­tee for In­vest­ment Dis­putes Res­o­lu­tion’s de­ci­sions, which in­di­cated the ab­sence of in­te­gra­tion be­tween the state in­sti­tu­tions in con­fig­ur­ing an ap­pro­pri­ate at­mos­phere for in­vest­ment.

Ac­cord­ing to the PFT, a to­tal of 968 cor­rup­tion incidents took place in Egypt in 2016.

The re­port is the 22nd to be pub­lished by the PFT, which doc­u­ments cor­rup­tion cases in gov­ern­men­tal in­sti­tu­tions through cir­cu­lated in­for­ma­tion in dif­fer­ent me­dia out­lets.
