Al-Ad­abiya Port reg­is­ters growth of 85% in Au­gust

Ma­jor Gen­eral Mah­fouz Taha, deputy chair­per­son of the Suez Canal Eco­nomic Zone for the South­ern Area (SCZone), an­nounced that ship move­ment and con­tain­ers han­dling in Al-Ad­abiya Port in­creased com­pared to the pre­vi­ous year.

He added that the port is see­ing in­creas­ing ac­tiv­ity in ship move­ment, ma­rine traf­fic, and trucks, next to grow­ing size of con­tainer han­dling in Au­gust 2017 com­pared to the same month last year.

The port re­ceived 463,825 tonnes of dry bulk cargo com­pared to 250,016 tonnes in Au­gust 2016—a growth of 85%.

The to­tal size of in­com­ing and out­go­ing goods in Au­gust 2017 reached 778,518 tonnes, com­pared to 539,637 tonnes in Au­gust 2016—an in­crease of 44%.

The to­tal num­ber of con­tain­ers reached 1,946 con­tain­ers, in­clud­ing 180 20-foot con­tain­ers and 1,677 40foot con­tain­ers, while the to­tal num­ber of ships reached 42.

Mah­fouz said the eco­nomic ac­tiv­ity be­gins at ports, which calls for en­cour­ag­ing in­vest­ments in ports and de­vel­op­ing them to at­tract ma­jor ships to the ports of the zone.
