Ja­panese FM dis­cusses North Korea cri­sis with Al-Sisi, Shoukry

Ja­panese For­eign Min­is­ter Taro Kono con­cluded meet­ings with President Ab­del Fat­tah Al-Sisi and his Egyp­tian coun­ter­part Sameh Shoukry on Tues­day and Mon­day.

In his meet­ing with Shoukry Mon­day stressed upon the ne­ces­sity for North Korea to com­mit to the UN Se­cu­rity Coun­cil res­o­lu­tions on Py­ongyang nu­clear ac­tiv­i­ties, ac­cord­ing to the min­istry. This comes in light of the re­cent nu­clear tests con­ducted and UN sanc­tions im­posed.

Mean­while, Shoukry thanked the Ja­panese Min­is­ter for the Ja­panese sup­port for the Cairo In­ter­na­tional Cen­tre for Con­flict Res­o­lu­tion, Peace­keep­ing and Peace build­ing since 2008, a min­istry-af­fil­i­ated cen­tre that pro­vides train­ings on diplo­matic con­flict res­o­lu­tion. Shoukry fur­ther called on Ja­pan’s sup­port for the Egyp­tian can­di­date for the pres­i­dency of the UNESCO Mushira Khat­tab.

On a fur­ther note, Al-Sisi told the min­is­ter he hoped Ja­panese in­vest­ments in Egypt would in­crease.

The president ex­pressed Egypt’s proud of the Egyp­tian-Ja­panese co­op­er­a­tion in de­vel­op­ing ed­u­ca­tion, and keen­ness on ben­e­fit­ing from the Ja­pan’s ex­pe­ri­ence in sev­eral fields in­clud­ing ed­u­ca­tion. He also thanked the Ja­panese min­is­ter for his coun­try’s sup­port for Egypt .Al-Sisi also ex­pressed hope for in­creas­ing the Ja­panese in­vest­ments in Egypt.

In March 2016,Al-Sisi vis­ited Ja­pan and met with the Ja­panese Prime Min­is­ter Shinzo Abe.
