Boeing and Singapore Airlines celebrated the delivery of the first 78710 airplane, the newest and largest member of the Dreamliner family that will set a new global standard for fuel efficiency, said a press statement from Boeing on Monday.

The statement added that Singapore Airlines is the first to operate all three Dreamliner models because it already flies the 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners, noting that the Singaporean group has an additional 68 Boeing wide-body jets on order, including 48 more 787-10s and 20 of the new 777-9 aeroplane.

Singapore Airlines plans to put its 787-10 into commercial service in May, with flights from Singapore to Osaka, Japan and Perth, Australia, noted the statement.

The 787-10 aeroplane is designed with strong, lightweight composites, advanced systems, and comfortable cabin features, added the statement, noting that the aeroplane has 330 seats in a standard two-class configuration.

The 787-10 aeroplane provides airlines with the lowest operating cost per seat compared to any other widebody airplane.

CEO of Singapore Airlines Goh Choon Phong said, “it is an honour for us to be the world’s first airline” to receive this aircraft, adding,“it is a magnificent piece of engineering and it will be an important element in our overall growth strategy, enabling us to expand our network and strengthen our operations.”

“The 787-10 underscores Singapore Airlines’ longstanding commitment to operate a modern fleet, and marks the start of a new chapter in our shared story with Boeing,” added Goh.

The 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft sets a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating costs with up to 25% more efficient fuel consumption per seat and lower emissions than the 787-9 aircraft, said the statement.

The statement added that the 787 Dreamliner group is an all-new, super-efficient family of commercial airplanes that can fly long distances while offering 20-25% better fuel efficiency per seat and lower emissions than other airplanes.

Since 2011, more than 640 Dreamliners have entered service, flying more than 230 million people on more than 680 routes around the world, saving an estimated 10.4m tonnes of fuel, said the statement.
