PM thanks Tu­valu for re­lief $249,939

Prime Min­is­ter Voreqe Bain­i­marama has thanked his Tu­valu coun­ter­part Enele Sopoaga, for the fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance made by the peo­ple and govern­ment of Tu­valu for the vic­tims of Trop­i­cal Cy­clone Win­ston. Prime Min­is­ter Bain­i­marama re­ceived a cash do­na­tion of FJ$249,939.71 from Prime Min­is­ter Sopoaga yes­ter­day dur­ing their meet­ing at the Prime Min­is­ter’s of­fice in Suva. The do­na­tion will go into the Prime Min­is­ter’s Na­tional Disas­ter Re­lief and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Fund, which was es­tab­lished to di­rectly as­sist Fi­jians af­fected by Cy­clone Win­ston. Mr Bain­i­marama ex­pressed his grat­i­tude for the do­na­tion on be­half of the Govern­ment and Fi­jian peo­ple. It was also an op­por­tu­nity for him to brief Mr Sopoaga on the re­lief and re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion works car­ried out. Mr Sopoaga said the do­na­tion was through a two-week pub­lic ap­peal in Tu­valu. Around AU$10,000 (FJ$15,834.76) was col­lected while the Govern­ment of Tu­valu con­trib­uted AU$150,000 (FJ$237,521.40). “The govern­ment of Tu­valu and the peo­ple of Tu­valu would like to ex­press their sym­pa­thy to the peo­ple of Fiji dur­ing th­ese dif­fi­cult times. Our prayers are with the Govern­ment of Fiji,” Mr Sopoaga said.
