In­mate Es­capes From Work­place

Hakik was on the verge of be­ing fully re­leased

The search is on for one in­mate who es­caped from his work­place on March 21. Ab­dul Hakik, 35 of Natabua Corrections fa­cil­ity a con­vict is serv­ing 21 months for an of­fence of ob­tain­ing prop­erty by false de­cep­tion was on early re­lease em­ploy­ment with Re­laxer Trans­port of Lau­toka.

Fiji Corrections Ser­vice (FCS) spokesper­son Atu­naisa Soko­muri said his em­ploye­ment was part of the FCS re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion pro­gramme. “These of­fend­ers who are re­leased for work are in a verge of be­ing fully re­leased thus we as­sess them through their work be­fore they are re­leased back into so­ci­ety,” Mr Soko­muri said. “This is usu­ally done in or­der to as­sist them in­te­grate bet­ter with so­ci­ety and also to en­sure that they do not re­turn back to Prison.” Mr Soko­muri has re­as­sured that the mat­ter will not af­fect their re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion work pro­gramme.
