Na­tureFiji-Mare­qetiViti to As­sist in Cy­clone Relief

In a bid to as­sist the min­istries of En­vi­ron­ment and Forests in their as­sess­ment af­ter Trop­i­cal Cy­clone Win­ston, a Na­tureFiji-Mare­qetiViti team was part of the ROC Mar­ket sale to raise funds to as­sist the two Gov­ern­ment min­istries. Na­tureFiji-Mare­qetiViti is an or­gan­i­sa­tion that aims to en­hance bio­di­ver­sity and habi­tat con­ser­va­tion, en­dan­gered species pro­tec­tion and sus­tain­able use of nat­u­ral re­sources of our coun­try. The ma­te­ri­als sold in­cluded cal­en­dars, colour­ing books, pins, draw­ings which fea­tured Fiji’s wildlife, en­demic and en­dan­gered species.

Na­tureFiji-Mare­qetiViti di­rec­tor, Nu­nia Thomas said the funds raised by the or­gan­i­sa­tion for the next three months wuld be di­rect- ed to­wards the as­sess­ment. “A lot of our lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties have been badly af­fected by the cy­clone and we are hop­ing to raise as much funds as we can so that in the long-run we are able to as­sist in the as­sess­ment on how the cy­clone has im­pacted our wildlife, ”Ms Thomas said. “We are hop­ing to in­spire our chil­dren to know Fiji’s wildlife and study it, so they can in­form their com­mu­ni­ties es­pe­cially Gov­ern­ment on the best way to ad­dress devel­op­ment, ”she said.
