A30-year- old man yesterday pleaded guilty to an assault charge before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa at a special court sitting in the Suva Magistrates Court.

Timoci Lagilagi, who is self-employed, is charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. The charge was read out to Lagilagi and indicated to court that he understood and pleaded guilty to the charge. The court heard that on March 22, Lagilagi allegedly assaulted an eight-year-old student with an extension cord. The boy was a student at Samabula Primary School. The court was also told that because of the seriousness of the alleged assault the victim suffered injuries.

In giving oral mitigation, Lagilagi told the court that he was married with three children and sought the court’s forgiveness. The prosecution did not object to bail but requested for a surety. Lagilagi was granted bail on a $300 bail bond. Magistrate warned Lagilagi that he was not to offend while on bail, and not to interfere with witnesses. The case has been adjourned to April 11 for sentencing. Edited by Naisa Koroi
