TJ Rush was crowned the new Open Men’s win­ner while Ge­orgimah Row re­tained her women’s ti­tle yes­ter­day.

Rush, 19 of the Fed­er­ated State of Mi­crone­sia beat Solomon’s Christin­noh Fu­jiyama (4-0, 4-2) in the fi­nal of the Easter Ten­nis Cham­pi­onship at the Re­gional Ten­nis Com­plex in Lautoka. Rush who is an In­ter­na­tional Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion schol­ar­ship re­cip­i­ent is a stu­dent of Natabua High School. “It was a tough a match and I have been train­ing hard and man- aged to pull this one,” he said. “Good to see top play­ers around the re­gion come to­gether for such a great out­ing.” Row who is also from the Solomon Is­lands beat Fiji’s Lo­raine Kamoe (4-1) in the fi­nal. Tour­na­ment di­rec­tor Sachin Reddy said he was im­pressed with the lo­cal play­ers in the four­day event. He said the tour­na­ment, served as a good se­lec­tion ground for the na­tional team to play at the ITF West Pa­cific qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ment in Lautoka from May 2-8. Reddy added that prepa­ra­tion is on go­ing for the in­au­gu­ral Ocea­nia Cham­pi­onship to be played in Suva from June 2-9.
