TJ Rush was crowned the new Open Men’s winner while Georgimah Row retained her women’s title yesterday.
Rush, 19 of the Federated State of Micronesia beat Solomon’s Christinnoh Fujiyama (4-0, 4-2) in the final of the Easter Tennis Championship at the Regional Tennis Complex in Lautoka. Rush who is an International Tennis Federation scholarship recipient is a student of Natabua High School. “It was a tough a match and I have been training hard and man- aged to pull this one,” he said. “Good to see top players around the region come together for such a great outing.” Row who is also from the Solomon Islands beat Fiji’s Loraine Kamoe (4-1) in the final. Tournament director Sachin Reddy said he was impressed with the local players in the fourday event. He said the tournament, served as a good selection ground for the national team to play at the ITF West Pacific qualifying tournament in Lautoka from May 2-8. Reddy added that preparation is on going for the inaugural Oceania Championship to be played in Suva from June 2-9.
