Man threatening to kill wife spared from jail
Port Vila: Supreme Judge, Oliver Saksak has suspended a 2 years and 6 months imprisonment sentence of a man who pleaded guilty for threatening to kill his de facto wife earlier this year. James Kasso was under the influence of alcohol at that time, had a knife on him when he threatened to cut the victim to death.
The act of threats to kill is contrary to section 115 of the Penal Code Act CAP 135 and is a serious offence with a maximum penalty of 15 years. Mr Kasso pleaded guilty to two of the same count. His sentence was suspended for 3 years during sentencing last week. “If you should commit the same offence or any other criminal offence for which you would be charged and convicted, this suspended sentence will be activated and you will go to prison to serve your prison term,” the Supreme Court Judge cautioned Kasso.
