France wel­come Vakatawa’s re­turn

Naitasiri na­tive Vir­imi Vakatawa has re­turned to France’s sevens squad af­ter play­ing a star­ring role for his adopted coun­try in the Six Na­tions 2016. Vakatawa marked his Les Bleus de­but against Italy with a try af­ter just 14 min­utes and was an ever-present in Guy Noves’ side through­out the Cham­pi­onship. The 23-year-old ap­peared in both the open­ing rounds of the se­ries in Dubai and Cape Town be­fore turn­ing his at­ten­tion to 15s. Vakatawa made his se­ries de­but in the 2013/14 sea­son and will be ap­pear­ing in his 14th tour­na­ment at the Cathay Pa­cific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens. Stade Toulouse’s for­mer France un­der-20 wing Arthur Bon­neval is set to make his se­ries de­but af­ter be­ing named in the squad of 13. Be­fore mak­ing his way to France, Vakatawa first made the lime­light when he played for Lo­maivuna High School be­fore he was re­cruited by Nas­inu Sec­ondary School.
