Schools that were used as evac­u­a­tion cen­tres is ex­pected to be cleared to­day, says Na­tional Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment Of­fice di­rec­tor Aka­pusi Tuifa­galele. Mr Tuifa­galele said this was one of the main rea­sons as to why schools around the coun­try re­mained closed yes­ter­day. How­ever he could not con­firm the num­ber of schools that were used as evac­u­a­tion cen­tres. “We ex­pect classes to re­sume as nor­mal to­day as fam­i­lies move back into their own homes.” 329 evac­u­a­tion cen­tres were open through­out the county dur­ing the past two days with 15,168 evac­uees. The high­est num­ber of evac­uees was recorded in the West with 11,294 evac­uees. Mr Tuifa­galele said as­sess­ment teams were cur­rently on the ground to de­ter­mine the cost of dam­age.
