Tefana trounced luckless Nadi
The Nadi football side were thrashed 6-1 by AS Tefana in the first round of the OFC Champions League at the QBE Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand yesterday. The Kamal Swamy- coached side failed to make use of the possession they had enjoyed in the first half as Tefana solid defence held them at bay. Nadi veteran Ilimotama Jese copped a double yellow card and was given the marching orders. Bolstering the Tefana side was goalkeeper Mikael Roche who did well and made some crucial saves for his side. Temarii Tinorua scored the first goal for Tefana in the 21st minute when he got behind the defence and smashed the ball past Nadi goalkeeper Vereti Dickson. Tefana continued to hold onto possession as Stanley Atani slammed in their second goal in the 30th minute. They led 2-0 at the breather. Tefana lifted the momentum in the second half as Tauhiti Keck scored their third goal as he drove the ball past a helpless Dickson in the 48th minute. They started to pile pressure on the Nadi defence as they went in looking for more goals. Then it was Keck through a brilliant solo act was able to beat Dickson on a half-volley for his second goal. Nadi pulled one back through an own goal by the Tefana goal keeper. In the other match AS Magenta beat Kiwi 2-0. Today at 1pm Suva take on Team Wellington in their Champions League opener.
