Tailevu/Naitasiri thrashed Tailevu North 4-0 in the Vodafone Senior League at Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

Roneel Ram scored the first goal for Tailevu/Naitasiri to lead 1-0 at half time but Tailevu North could not hold on as Kaushik Kumar, Shivneel Ram and Savirio Naqoli scored a each in the last 15 minutes of the game. Coach Elvis Mukesh Gounder said the win was a relief but the players need to change their attitude and step-up their game if they want to do well this season. “We started off really slow and only picked up in the last few minutes of the game which is something we need to work on,” Gounder said. “We lost focus in the beginning and picked up and then lost it again and then got it back towards the end of the game; we need to remain focussed throughout the game not just only in some parts. “Though it was a good win, we have faced problems with players not turning up to training because of the weather conditions and also because most of our players stay far away and it is hard for them to attend training every day. “So it has been hard for us but we know the fight isn’t over yet, we need to continue rebuilding our team and improve on our mistakes for our next game.” Tailevu North coach Ramesh Chandra said he expected this kind of performance, especially since the team have not trained at all. “We respect Tailevu/Naitasiri and we know that they are a much experienced side having played against the big guns.”
