Two separate fi res kept fi refighters busy in Suva last night. In Tacirua, firefighters were trying to extinguish a blaze that had engulfed a home. The fire spread to an adjacent shop. When this edition went to press, firefighters were trying to control the shop fire ( Full report tomorrow). Meanwhile, in the second fire in Laucala Beach, three fire trucks tried to put out a fire at a vacant church building. It took them more than an hour to put the fire out. The building belongs to the Apostle Church. Security officers Mika Sunia Tubuna and Anitivasa Ranatawake at the Fortech Construction Limited warehouse informed National Fire Authority (NFA) about the blaze. Mr Tubuna said: “We were on duty when a small boy came and informed us about the fire. “We ran as quickly as possible and tried to put out the fire but, it was too late. “The vacant building was fully engulfed in flames,” he said. Mr Tubuna said the church building had been vacant for the last few years. No one was injured during the time of the incident.
