With due respect to the Chiefs, and looking back at the history I don’t think Fiji needs a great council of chiefs. The great council of chiefs was manipulated by the government and used by the previous government for their own political advantage, it became very racist and divided Fiji on racial preferences, if they want to form a great council of chiefs, they can go ahead and form a independent organization not on the expense of government like Fiji teachers union, Fiji trades union, Fiji taxi union etc etc and take their concern to the appropriate Minister (Fijian Affairs Minister). GCC was a tooth less tiger which was fed by government and used by government on racial back ground for their own political advantage, instead of uniting Fiji, it divided Fiji on racial preferences. GCC was manipulated and used in the overthrow of democratically elected government of Fiji (87 and 2000 military coups) many were charged and prosecuted sentence to prison.
