Nauru opposition criticises restrictions
Yaren: Nauru is due to hold elections about the middle of this year but opponents of the government say campaigning will be difficult given curbs on what they can say. The Nauru government has largely had a free ride since it suspended the bulk of the parliamentary opposition two years ago. One of the suspended MPs, former president Sprent Dabwido, said prospective candidates who oppose the government face enormous hurdles. He said recent law changes made criticism of the government a criminal act.
