Rawaca Will Rest

Kau­vesi con­firms star winger to miss Paris, Lon­don tour­na­ments

Voda­fone Fi­jian 7s star winger Save­naca Rawaca is not go­ing to play in the Paris and Lon­don tour­na­ments of the 2015/16 World Sev­ens Se­ries. This was confi rmed yes­ter­day by Voda­fone Fi­jian 7s man­ager Ropate Kau­vesi. Rawaca has been in­formed that he was not go­ing to travel with the team due to med­i­cal grounds. He had sus­tained a leg in­jury dur­ing the Hong Kong 7s tour­na­ment and has been un­der ob­ser­va­tion ever since. How­ever, Kau­vesi said Rawaca is still in con­tention for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in Au­gust. “Rawaca should be rest­ing well for the Olympics,” he said. “We will be trav­el­ing with 11 play­ers and will be joined with the play­ers from France, and we are giv­ing Save (Rawaca) time to rest.” It was also con­firmed that Rawaca did not join the Voda­fone Fi­jian 7s team for their train­ing camp at Pa­cific Har­bour but was rest­ing at his home.

Fiji leads the World Se­ries with 147 points and closely fol­lowed by South Africa and New Zealand. In an ear­lier in­ter­view Kau­vesi men­tioned the Voda­fone Fi­jian 7s team were on track and look­ing for­ward to the Paris and Lon­don tour­na­ments. “Our main fo­cus is to play well in France and any­thing that hap­pens af­ter that in Lon­don is a bonus. “Win­ning is our ul­ti­mate aim and we need to be at our ul­ti­mate best.”

The Voda­fone Fi­jians leave for France to­day for the Paris 7s, which will be from May 13-15.
