47-year-old released on bail with a DVRO

A man charged with sexual assault was yesterday released on strict bail conditions and handed a Domestic Violence Restraining Order at the Suva Magistrates Court. Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage granted bail for the 47-year-old who allegedly sexually assaulted his 15-year-old nephew. The accused chose to represent himself and the Prosecutor constable Priti Prasad did not object to bail but had applied and granted a DVRO. The DVRO stipulates that the accused is not to sexually or physically assault or threaten the victim, not to damage property and not to intimidate or harass the victim. Mr Liyanage granted bail upon two sureties that were presented in Court and strict bail instructions have been given whereby the accused is not to re-offend and has to report to the nearest Police Station every Saturday. The court is adjourned to May 31.
