Jacinta displays her handicraft
People of Rotuma showcase their talents every year during Rotuma Day
Women displayed their handicraft talents at the Rotuma Day celebrations at the Churchward Chapel in Rewa Street, Suva, yesterday. Among them was Jacinta Tonga, 40, who displayed her handicraft.
She is originally from Pepjei in Rotuma and now resides in Suva. “I am a nurse by profession and making handicraft items is my hobby,” she said. Ms Tonga said she would spend her after work spare time making handicraft items. She said her handicraft were for her collection only and were not for sale but only when somebody made an order. “I had learned weaving from my mother, sisters and my grandmother in Rotuma. “Since my childhood, I have been weaving and making handicrafts,” she said.
Ms Tonga said she showcased her handicraft items during the Rotuma Day celebrations every year.
