Peo­ple of Ro­tuma show­case their tal­ents ev­ery year dur­ing Ro­tuma Day

Women dis­played their hand­i­craft tal­ents at the Ro­tuma Day cel­e­bra­tions at the Church­ward Chapel in Rewa Street, Suva, yes­ter­day. Among them was Jac­inta Tonga, 40, who dis­played her hand­i­craft.

She is orig­i­nally from Pep­jei in Ro­tuma and now re­sides in Suva. “I am a nurse by pro­fes­sion and mak­ing hand­i­craft items is my hobby,” she said. Ms Tonga said she would spend her af­ter work spare time mak­ing hand­i­craft items. She said her hand­i­craft were for her col­lec­tion only and were not for sale but only when some­body made an or­der. “I had learned weav­ing from my mother, sis­ters and my grand­mother in Ro­tuma. “Since my child­hood, I have been weav­ing and mak­ing handicrafts,” she said.

Ms Tonga said she show­cased her hand­i­craft items dur­ing the Ro­tuma Day cel­e­bra­tions ev­ery year.
