Macu­ata go down fight­ing

The Macu­ata rugby team put on an in­spi­ra­tional per­for­mance as they went down 19-15 to Nadroga at Subrail Park, Labasa yes­ter­day.

What hap­pened: Nadroga took com­mand of the match with an un­con­verted to Atu­naisa Navuma in the 20th minute. The Stal­lions ex­tended their lead to 12-0 through Epeli Qa­tivi’s try, which was con­verted by Jone­tani Ralulu. Not to be out­done, Macu­ata replied with an un­con­verted try to Sela Koya­mai­bole.

Half time: Nadroga 12 -5 Macu­ata

Macu­ata started strongly in the sec­ond spell as they went for an up­set win. How­ever, Nadroga weath­ered all that was thrown at them and hit back with a try to lock Sekon­aia Kalou which was con­verted by Ralulu. But the hosts did not give up and Koya­mai­bole scored his sec­ond try, which was con­verted as they came closer 19-12. Macu­ata threw ev­ery­thing into the game and a last minute penalty from Sosiceni Dau­gunu saw them edged closer 19-15.

Big play: Macu­ata flanker Koya­mai­bole was the player of the match with two tries.

Ropate Rakadi said they need to work hard be­fore their next game. “Happy with the per­for­mance of the boys but we need to ad­dress cer­tain ar­eas of our play be­fore we take on Lautoka next Satur­day.” Nadroga man­ager Apakuki

Tuitawa said they were sur­prised with the way Macu­ata played. “We did not ex­pect such per­for­mance from them. But for now the team need to ad­dress mis­takes made in this game.”
