Macuata go down fighting
The Macuata rugby team put on an inspirational performance as they went down 19-15 to Nadroga at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.
What happened: Nadroga took command of the match with an unconverted to Atunaisa Navuma in the 20th minute. The Stallions extended their lead to 12-0 through Epeli Qativi’s try, which was converted by Jonetani Ralulu. Not to be outdone, Macuata replied with an unconverted try to Sela Koyamaibole.
Half time: Nadroga 12 -5 Macuata
Macuata started strongly in the second spell as they went for an upset win. However, Nadroga weathered all that was thrown at them and hit back with a try to lock Sekonaia Kalou which was converted by Ralulu. But the hosts did not give up and Koyamaibole scored his second try, which was converted as they came closer 19-12. Macuata threw everything into the game and a last minute penalty from Sosiceni Daugunu saw them edged closer 19-15.
Big play: Macuata flanker Koyamaibole was the player of the match with two tries.
