Jetty jam

Fiji Sun - - Election Countdown 2018 - By Maraia Vula Feedback: maraia.vula@fijisun.com.fj

Seems our big two inter-island ferry operators are still having problems with co-ordinating movements. Word from out in Koro is of another waiting game on Saturday night involving vessels from Patterson Brothers and Goundar Shipping. That’s in one having to wait - some time, it is said - to use the Koro jetty to unload vehicles and people. A rival’s vessel was parked at the jetty.

All this in the middle of the night.

Data story

Is it true? Story doing the rounds is that a failed Opposition general election candidate’s name is on the so-called Data Bureau list.

Messy times

Good to see grass alongside the Queens Road being cut as part of a cleanup. Bad to see so much rubbish thrown from passing vehicles being uncovered by the grass cutting. Friend of CW says we should follow the Singapore model.

Vigorous enforcement of anti-litter laws and penalties. And shaming of offenders. Littering does not happen any more in Singapore.

Just shoosh

A junior lawyer started making “smart” remarks about our paper’s coverage. It dawned on him that we are nearing elections so he wants to make his views known. Memo to junior lawyer: No problem with people expressing their views. But do it in a more sober way rather than lashing out in a public place. Not good for your image.
