Wanted ex­pat ar­rested in Van­u­atu

David Pathin­son, the Bri­tish na­tional wanted by Van­u­atu Po­lice for al­le­ga­tions of sex­ual re­lated of­fences with young boys was ar­rested on Thurs­day, Po­lice me­dia has con­firmed. Daily Post is in­formed that he was ar­rested and de­tained, but no fur­ther de­tails in­clud­ing whether or not he was re­leased on bail was given. Some­times in Au­gust last year, Po­lice in the Cap­i­tal noted Pathin­son es­caped on his yatch, the Seren­ity. Ac­cord­ing to a Daily Post re­port, Pathin­son was first ar­rested by Po­lice in Port Vila in 2014 and charged with sex­ual and in­de­cency with a young per­son. Van­u­atu Daily Post her new­born son were med­i­cally evac­u­ated from Nauru in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

Ian Rin­toul, from the Refugee Ac­tion Col­lec­tive, said 22-year-old Naima Ahmed was 32 weeks preg­nant when she un­der­went a cae­sarean sec­tion op­er­a­tion on Thurs­day. The ABC un­der­stands Ms Ahmed has been taken off life sup­port and her con­di­tion is slowly im­prov­ing. Mr Dut­ton said on Satur­day there were “sig­nif­i­cant num­bers of med­i­cal staff ” on Nauru who pro­vided care to asy­lum seek­ers in de­ten­tion. He said Aus­tralia’s pol­icy was firm on not al­low­ing peo­ple in off­shore de­ten­tion into Aus­tralia, ex­cept in an emer­gency. ABC
