Unbeaten Maka to test Farzan
Tough Tongan welterweight boxer Sitaleki Maka arrives into the country tomorrow and is expected to give Fiji welterweight champion Junior Farzan Ali a hell of a fight on Saturday night. This was the sentiment of Toe-2Toe promoter Abdul Feroz who said yesterday that Maka has prepared well as he was named the replacement boxer four weeks ago after Paul Taylor pulled out due to sickness. “Look at BoxRec- Maka has an impressive unbeaten record of eight fights,” he said. The 30-year-old Maka currently holds the New Zealand National Boxing Federation super lightweight title and is based in Auckland. As an amateur boxer he has represented Tonga and is under the guidance of world renowned trainer Lolo Heimuli. Feroz told SUNsports that he has worked hard to promote the programme that is to be staged at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Saturday and he wants to ensure that fans get their monies worth.
“I’m calling on fans to expect a great fight on Saturday because I have invested so much into this promotion and I hope to deliver the goods. I urge fans to buy their tickets from any Sports World outlet near them. This is an opportunity for them show their support towards the revival of boxing in the country,” he added. The Lomawai native from Nadroga has been renowned for bringing world rated overseas boxers like Paul Smallman, Sean Sullivan, Gary Comer, Daniel Baff and Javier Mamani to fight in our shores.
UNDERCARDS Feroz who is making a comeback to promotion says, the undercards consisted of upcoming boxers who have the potential to become drawcards. “These boxers have got good amateur boxing records and have represented Fiji as well.” These boxers are Franco Frasier, Joseva Vaileba, Ulaiasi Qalomai, Savenaca Naliva and Tomasi Dago while hard hitting Simione Tui is making a return to the ring as well.
