Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan cleared the air on reports made by overseas media that he had stormed off during the Jarryd Hayne conference in London on Monday.

The report stated that the ‘Fiji coach ‘storms off’ from Hayne presser’ and indicated that Ryan had his first real taste of the hysteria which surrounds Australia’s most talked-about athlete. Hayne had arrived in London to begin his pursuit of an Olympic spot with Ryan’s side. Ryan sent a tweet in his response to the media reports.

“I would like to respond to a report in the Australian media yesterday quoting I “stormed off” at a media interview,” indicated Ryan. “I happily answered their questions and had no problem at all with that. When a hotel staff member asked them to move back, members of the media started verbally abusing him. He was only trying to do his job. I couldn’t accept that.” The Vodafone Fijian head coach stated that he had to take his stand and stopped the interview. “The standard you walk past is the standard you become. I couldn’t drop my values so I stopped the interview. Simple as that.”
