Warriors win first Test clash
The Telecom Fijian Warriors claim the first Test against Uruguay with a 39-24 win at the Estadio Charrúa Stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay last Saturday. The Warriors got to a good start with an early try in the sixth minute from Serupepeli Vularika who also converted as they led 7-0. The Senirusi Seruvakulacoached Warriors were aggressive in defence as they dominated possession. But that did not last long as the home side managed to open up gaps in their defence leading to a try to Germán Kessler, with the extra points added by Ignacio Secco as they drew level, 7-7. Uruguay lacked patience and made basic mistakes which Warriors capitalised on with Vularika converting two penalties to extend their lead to 13-7. Constant pressure on the home team near their try line earned the Warriors a penalty try to further their lead 20-7 but Uruguay pulled one back with Carlos Arboleya scoring the second try to narrow the deficit 20-12. Mataiasi Ucutabua and winger Lepani Raiyala scored a try each with Vularika adding two points from the conversion. They play Uruguay in their second Test match on Saturday at Estadio Charrúa Stadium.
